Chandigarh March 20 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Darshan Singh, posted at police station Sherpur, Sangrur district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned police personnel has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Binder Singh, a resident of village Herike, Sangrur. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said ASI was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from his friend Gurjot Singh and his mother Karamjit Kaur, residents of same village who were nominated in a police case registered at police station Sherpur. The complainant further alleged that the accused police personnel had already taken bribes on different occasions in lieu of presenting supplementary challan to the court in their case and now demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint the a VB team has laid a trap and arrested ASI Darshan Singh red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation into this case was progress, he said.
